THE PICASSO FOUNDATION, MÁLAGA
 

The foundation is located in the very building in which Pablo Ruiz Picasso was born on the 25th of October 1881. Since 1983 his birthplace has been considered as a protected monument in terms of its historical and its artistic significance. It became a museum in 1991. Situated in Plaza de la Merced, the building is in the historic center of the city, near monuments such as the Alcazaba (Arabic castle), the Roman Theatre, the cathedral and a few minutes away from the Cervantes Theatre. It is presided over by the mayor of the city, whose main aim is to promote the artist's work to the rest of Spain, and beyond.
