CITY ZOOLOGICAL GARDEN, WROCLAW: all year |
The Zoological Gardens in Wroclaw sprawl over 33 hectares and are home to more than 500 species of animals. Able to house exotic animals since the end of the 19th century, the gardens have grown to include a vast array of creatures. There are specially-made enclosures for mammals such as monkeys, bears, seals and antelopes, as well as the reptile and amphibian houses.
The zoo is truly vast and well worth a visit when in Poland. On average, 500 000 people visit every year, testament to its wide-ranging appeal. As well as the normal animal lovers, the quality of the zoo also attracts experts. Conservation is very important for the zoo and the owners prioritise the needs of their animals. The general director Antoni Gucwinski and the head zoologist, Hanna Gucwinski, front a weekly 25 minute local television programme about animal care. Concerned with the correct treatment of animals at home, the programme illustrates the commendable attitude of the zoo to its most important occupants: the animals.
So, in order to please the kids, or simply to satisfy your own animal inclinations, Wroclaw Zoological Garden is a must-visit attraction. Marvel at monkeys swinging from trees, fish swimming in indoor seas and eagles swooping in their aviaries. |
