The ancient city of Ribe was a key trading hub between western Europe and the rest of Scandinavia during the Viking period. The Ribe Viking Museum recreates the atmosphere of the bustling market place, displaying many of the treasures and everyday objects of the time, including pearls, combs and bronze jewellery. In an interactive audio-visual trip, the museum takes you through Ribe's development and there is even a video film shown several times a day. Another extraordinary attraction in the area, which gives a thoroughly realistic taste of Viking life, is the Viking Centre just outside of Ribe, complete with a reconstruction of a real Viking market where visitors can gain an insight into the way Viking Age craftsmen worked.
