THE FISHERIES AND MARITIME MUSEUM: all year

Children and grown-ups alike will be enthralled by the seawater aquarium in Esbjerg's maritime museum. Housing 25 tanks with a wide range of different fish and marine animals from Danish waters, the museum sheds light on creatures from the depths from the commonplace plaice to the shark and the octopus. Children will especially adore watching the feeding of the seals (11am and 2.30pm) who live and play in the large outdoor pool, which has an underwater viewing area too. The museum also offers two permanent exhibitions showing tools, vessels, paintings and models explaining the shipbuilding and fishing history of this seafaring nation that was home to the Vikings.

Opening hours
  • 1 September to 30 June: 10am - 5pm
  • 1 July - 31 August: 10am - 6pm
  • The museum is closed 24, 25 and 31 December, and 1 January.
