National Art Gallery and Alexandros Soutzos Museum

For a real insight into Greek and Western art, don't miss out on visiting the largest picture and portrait gallery in the country. The initial core of 117 paintings was formed in 1878, swelling over the years so that the gallery now boasts 9,500 paintings, sculptures and engravings. This impressive collection of art includes pieces not be misssed such as The Greek Rider by Delacroix and The Kiss by Lytras, with a good dose of Greek Art post the Greek War of Independence (1821-1832).

To find the gallery, simply ask for directions to the better known Hilton Hotel next door!

Athens - SPATHAREION MUSEUM OF SHADOW THEATER: all year round
Shadow Theater is well entrenched in Greek Folklore. It is an art form that has entertained many generations by using leather puppets against white screans. It is assumed that the Theater originates from the Far East.
