DEUTSCHE OPER BERLIN: Season 2011-2012

VENUE

The first theatre on this site was built in 1911 as "Deutsches Opernhaus". In 1924 it was renamed "Städtische Oper". Destroyed by bombs in 1943 the "Städtische Oper" performed in the "Theater des Westens" until the new "Deutsche Oper Berlin" was opened.

It was rebuilt between 1957 and 1961 by Fritz Bornemann, using the remains of the previous theatre. It reopened 24 Sep 1961 with Mozart's "Don Giovanni".
