MUSEUM OF PRINTS AND DRAWINGS / KUPFERSTICHKABINETT, BERLIN

The accumulation of this collection originates from the time when Frederick William the 1st, also known as The Great Elector, purchased in 1652 2 500 drawings and watercolours. That was the birth of the Cabinet of Drawings, later to be the Museum of Prints and Drawings (Kupfersitichkabinett) which has become internationally famous. Indeed, 1 100 000 drawings, watercolours, gouaches and pastels from the 14th to the 20th century, completed by 540 000 engravings from the Middle Ages to nowadays are exhibited in this impressive museum !
