When Théophile Bader and his cousin Alphonse Kahn opened a small Haberdashery on the corner of the Rue de Lafayette in 1895, no one could have suspected that this would grow into an opulent department store testifying to Paris's repuation as a city of high fashion, shopping and luxury.
