Museu del Disseny, Barcelona

The Barcelona Museum of Design is a collaboration of multiple different genres of decorative arts, including fashion, graphic design, ceramics and textiles all grouped together in one place.

The Museu del Disseny, or the Museum of Design, is the combination of four different collections drawn from the Museu de les Arts Decoratives , the Museu de Ceràmica, the Museu Tèxtil i d'Indumentària (textiles and clothing) and the Gabinet de les Arts Gràfiques (graphic arts). Together these four genres make up the larger collection of decorative arts and design housed in the Museum of Design, which to date includes over 70,000 objects. What they all have in common is their focus on physical objects, rather than what can be classified as "fine arts" (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.), and this is the main focus of the museum, the object as art.

The collections are divided into three different sections, one which focuses on historical decorative arts such as antiques, tapestries and silverware, one dedicated to art which falls into the "design" category (fashion and graphic arts), and finally one focusing on modern decorative artists. The historic section covers the entire collective history of decorative arts, from the 4th century AD onwards, focusing particularly on notable Catalan artists and designers. However, many more artists are featured in special exhibitions at the museum, which range from genre-specific showcases to retrospective exhibitions highlighting one artist.
