Arts Santa Mònica, Barcelona: All Year

The Centre d'Art Santa Mònica, located conveniently on the major Barcelonian thoroughfare, La Rambla de Santa Mònica, is a prominent venue in the modern arts community of Barcelona. Started in 1988, the centre has featured a huge number of temporary art exhibitions over the last two decades, both from international artists and local Catalans, with a focus on modern visual arts and installations. Both an art gallery and a cultural centre for the community, the CASM highlights around 20 new exhibitions and events each year, ranging from educational classes and lectures to experimental modern installations.

The building itself is a renovated Renaissance structure dating to the early 17th century, which originally housed the Convent of Santa Mònica. The traditional brick exterior of the building contrasts nicely with the primarily modern, edgy exhibitions inside. To add to this, you can't beat the great views from the centre, looking out over the sea straight down the Rambla, something which will never change with time.
