A.E.I.O.U. From Klimt to Hausner and Wurm, Austrian Art in Würth Collection,Art Forum Würth Capena, 11 Feb 2017-26 Jan 2019

Reinhold Würth, the director of the multinational Würth Group, founded the Würth Collection,  the largest collection of Austrian art outside Austria. Paintings, sculptures and graphics from 30 artists will be on display at the Art Forum to show you the influence of Austrian art in the 20th century.

You can see a variety of artistic phases in this exhibition: the works resulting from the Viennese Secession, the influence of French Impressionism, and Surrealism and Abstract art after World War II, but at the heart of the exhibition is the Austrian identity. A.E.I.O.U, the exhibition’s title, was taken from the signature of Habsburg emperor Frederick III. Although we don’t know what it stands for, the interpretation “Austria Europae Imago, Onus, Unio”  has been proposed recently. This means Austria as an image, burden and union of Europe. As an exhibition title, it stresses the significance of Austria’s cultural and historical role in Europe.
