Museo Galileo is a state of the art science museum in Florence!

Museo Galileo is a state of the art science museum in Florence!  Located in the former Institute and Museum of the History of Science in Piazza dei Giudici, the building was constructed in the 11th century as a castle.

Museo Galileo has a major scientific collection of instruments owned by the Medici and Lorraine family.  The first Italian Exhibition of the History of Science was inaugurated in 1929 to show the importance of science within Italian heritage.

The entire first floor consists of the Medici Collections from the 15th century to the 18th century.  This collection has all of Galileo’s unique objects such as telescopes, thermometers, and celestial and terrestrial globes.  The entire second floor is devoted to the Lorraine Collections.  These include instruments such as wax models and machines that illustrate physical laws.

A visit to Museo Galileo is like opening up a treasure chest full of scientific goodies!
