Miramar, Restaurant, Marseille

One of the best restaurants in Marseille to taste “the real” bouillabaisse just in the heart of the Old Port.

Bouillabaisse, once regarded as a working-class dish which was mostly cooked in the families of fishermen is now a “local celebrity” and a “must taste” if you are in Marseille. It is a traditional Provençal fish stew, which owes its origins to Marseille. Today the recipe is enriched by fish such as monkfish or shellfish.

Chic and charming Miramar offers one of the best bouillabaisse in town together with an outstanding view of the Old Port and Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde. The restaurant here served bouillabaisse since 1965 and still has the original old-fashioned frescoes and red benches. Today the restaurant even organises bouillabaisse cooking lessons in their own kitchen.

Christian Buffa, the chef is of Italian and Corsican origins, and bases his recipes on childhood memories and of course fresh products. Chef’s bouillabaisse costs €130 for two people.

Of course Miramar has other amazing dishes (and not only based on fish), entries and desserts. Bear in mind that bouillabaisse, the Bourride and the seafood plateau are for a minimum of two people.
