Santons Marcel Carbonel, Boutique and Museum, Marseille: All Year

A provencal boutique and museum, with a vast selection of traditional hand-made Santon figurines.

Santons Marcel Carbonel is a shop and museum created by Marcel Carbonel, a santonnier from Marseille, Provence, in 1935. The word santons comes from the word santouns, meaning little saints. Traditionally there are 55 individual figures representing various characters from Provençal village life such as the scissors grinder, the fishwife, the blind man etc. They are made from terracotta and painted, and are a long standing tradition from the south east of France. With over 80 years of experience, this shop offers an impressive and varied collection of terracotta nativity scenes figurines. The perfect unique gift, especially at Christmas.
