René Magritte had a knack for taking the ordinary and reinterpreting it to create the extraordinary. Through his art, he lets us reimagine images familiar to us and shows us a new way of viewing the world. The design of the exhibition is inspired by this Magritte-vision, taking original sketches and plates of his but also using the layout of the space to create surrealist visions.
Magritte-vision is also what author-illustrator Klaas Verplancke promotes in his book, Magritte’s Apple. Aimed at both young and old readers, Verplancke tells the story of how Magritte became an artist through zany creations such as the applehat, pipebranches and butterleaves. The publishers of the book, Fatatrac, and the Palazzo delle Esposizioni's Education Services are collaborating on this event to provide events such as workshops and talks to accompany the exhibition.
