Liu Bolin. The invisible man, Complesso del Vittoriano, Rome: 2 March - 1 July 2018

This is archived material. It is for reference purposes only.

See Liu Bolin blend into any background in this retrospective exhibition on the artist’s work at the Complesso del Vittoriano.

The artist Liu Bolin is best known for creating the effect of being invisible by painting himself into urban cityscapes. His first performances were in Beijing and were meant to be an act of silent protest against the Chinese government, who destroyed the artist village he was working in. He has since “disappeared” in many other cities and situations, each time trying to highlight a different social or geopolitical issue. This exhibition will be his first major one in Italy and expresses his career so far in seven sections, showing over 70 of his works. It starts off with his beginnings in Beijing to his more recent “disappearances” at the Royal Palace of Caserta and the Coliseum in 2017.
