Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio, Milan

One of Milan’s most historic churches, the Basilica of Sant’Eustorgio, was built in the 4th century to house the bones of the Three Kings.

It was originally built in Roman times and subsequently rebuilt several times over a number of centuries.

It was for many years an important stop for pilgrims on their journey to Rome or to the Holy Land, because it was said to contain the tomb of the Three Magi or Three Kings.

There is a private chapel dedicated to Pigello Portinari who was a representative of the Medici bank; he put a lot of money into this Renaissance chapel decorated with frescoes. In the center of the church are many life-size statues of religious figures.
