Collaborative exhibition by well-known brand Hermès at the exquisite Grand Palais art space.
The Beaux-Arts style Grand Palais was designed in 1897, along with the Petit Palais opposite and the opulent Pont Alexandre lll. One of its pediments calls it a “monument dedicated by the Republic to the glory of French art”, reflecting its original purpose, that of housing the great artistic events of the city of Paris. The fierce and controversial competition to choose the architect resulted in the contract being awarded to a group of four architects; Henri Deglane, Albert Louvet, Albert Thomas and Charles Girault. There are elements of different art movements throughout, for example the Art Nouveau iron dome and the classical style staircase.
There is a large array of exhibitions to explore for example at the moment they have the “Irving Penn retrospective” and comparatively the “Gauguin l’alchimiste” which have both been hugely successful with people queuing outside for hours to get a peek. This collaboration brings all of the success of the Grand Palais and the well-known brand Hermès together in a luxurious exposition that was inspired by a conversation between the window designer of the famous brand and Leïla Menchari who said « Dessinez-moi vos rêves ».
No expense is spared with personal guides dotted around waiting to answer all of your questions for example outside the green, underwater inspired window design, there is someone waiting to let you know how all of the dazzling Swarovski crystals are incorporated into the design.
