A place of creation, distribution and transmission and a historic site revisited by the architect Jean-François Milou, the centre presents a multidisciplinary and innovative project around three main areas: sport, art & culture and events
Built in 1863 and previously a covered clothes market in the Marais, Le Carreau du Temple now claims to be “dedicated to lifestyles and urban uses”. The program includes 100 events, concerts, shows, and exhibitions per year, but also 90 sports niches per week. It consists predominantly of its own projects or projects built in partnership with institutional structures in Paris and France, artistic residencies, cultural and sports associations, or actors of the economic world.
So if you’re in the area and have some time to kill, just an hour or even a whole afternoon, then the likelihood is that there will be something interesting going on at Le Carreau du Temple. For example, in November, Hermès, the French luxury brand put on an exhibition "Hermès hors des murs 2016” showing how exactly they make their prize collection of handbags, gloves, jewels and everything else.
It’s hard to miss the large steel and glass structure of the Le Carreau du Temple when you’re walking around the Marais. Just a short walk from the Picasso Museum and the Carnavelet Museum, there is no doubt that it is worth popping into.
