Comédie Française, Theatre, Paris

Founded in 1680, the Comédie-Française has long reigned as France's premier state theatre. In the 17th century, the name most associated with the theatre was Molière, as the author debuted his barbed comedies of manners there; the theatre was even referred to as La Maison de Molière (Molière's house). The theatre was built between 1786 à 1790 by architect Victor Louis.

Founded in 1680, the Comédie-Française is where famous playwrights made their names, did battle in ink, wrangled for rank, and dramatised their escapades.

Today, the Comédie-Française still stages productions, put on by its resident troupe of actors, a unique feature in the theatre world today. Try to get tickets to a show in the Salle Richelieu to soak up the rich theatrical history of the Comédie-Française.
