The Domus Aurea tour gets a virtual reality upgrade. Using Oculus Rift goggles, you can see this archaeological site with added video projections and virtual reality installations.
The Domus Aurea was a palace built in the centre of ancient Rome by Emperor Nero, and was considered a piece of ‘countryside in the city’ at the time. Now you can view this palace from 64 A.D. with 21st century tech, because the Domus Aurea have added video mapping and virtual reality to their site tours. This is meant to increase their educational value as well as give you an experience of how the palace could have looked in its heyday. The 12-point itinerary starts off at the entrance with high definition projections about the Domus Aurea’s history and includes a special augmented reality installation in the Golden Vault Room.
