Stadtpark, Vienna

The Stadtpark is one of the green areas in Vienna. It extends itself from the most central Ringstraße until the neighborhood of Landstraße.  The park was constructed in 1862, following the demolition of impressive walls that for centuries have protected Vienna from invaders, especially from the Ottomans.

In the design, also included was the Kursalon, a building constructed in the Italian Renaissance style and that today still hosts dances and concerts.  In the past, there have been shows of the Strauss brothers, which included the king of the waltz: Johann Strauss.

Between the trees and the meadows of the Stadtpark, one passes the Wienfluss, that cuts in between the middle of the park. The variety of plants is surprising and walking between the mirrors of water and fairytale bridges doesn’t seem by any means to find yourself in the congested center of Vienna.

Advice from Divento…

The monument to Johann Strauss, is a gold statue completely inserted in a setting of the whitest marble and that depicts the composer while he is playing the violin.  Near the lake, positioned in the center of the park, it is possible to also admire the monument dedicated to Franz Schubert.
