The nature reserve of Lainzer Tiergarten is found in the surburb to the southwest of Vienna.  It covers an area of 2.450 hectares and it establishes the largest protected area of the city.

It was founded in 1561 by demands of Ferdinand I of the Hapsburgs, that wanted to create a area for hunting for the Austrian royal family.  The woody terrain that occupied a big part of the park is the natural habitat for many wild animals.

It is possible to catch sight of the most beautiful examples of deer and fawns in the clearings that are found in the park and also many boars, often accompanied by their puppies.  From the park one can also enjoy a breathtaking view of the city.

Advice from Divento…

The view to Hermesvilla, the most beautiful residence that the emperor Francesco Giuseppe especially built for the princess Sissi.  The gardens and decorated rooms, give a fairytale atmosphere to visitors that pass through the Lanzier Tiergarten.

It is no coincidence therefore, that the restoration of this villa in the postwar period took place thanks to a Disney film dedicated to the Lipizzani horses, the same ones from the School of Spanish Equitation and that in the summer are bred in the same magnificent area.
