Wiener Konzerthaus, Vienna

The Konzerthaus of Vienna is one of the buildings where musical art finds its epicentre.

Mozart said that “The true music exists between the notes”. In Vienna, however, music seems to exist everywhere. The Konzerthaus of Vienna is one of the buildings where musical art finds its epicentre.

The Wiener Konzerthaus was built at the start of the 19th Century. It was conceived as a large capacity concert hall which could house audiences that the other Viennese music halls physically could not.

The Vienna Symphony Orchestra often performs here, in the highly decorated Großer Saal, not to be confused with the Philharmonic Orchestra that plays in the Musikverein.

The original idea also included an open-air concert hall so as to be able to host more audience members, especially in the summer months. Despite the fact that this expansion plan fell through, nowadays the space they planned to use is transformed into the famous Wiener Eislauf Verein ice-skating rink.
