Prague Castle is probably the most significant Czech monument and one of the most important cultural institutions in Prague.

Prince Bořivoj of the Premyslid Dynasty is believed to have founded the castle around the year 880. The castle complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is considered one of the greatest in the world, with an extension of 70,000 square meters.

In the complex you will find palaces and ecclesiastical buildings of architectural styles that include 10th century buildings in Roman-style and 14th century Gothic modifications. The complex has undergone several restauration works over the centuries; during the First Republic (1918-1938), the complex was renovated by Josip Plečnik, a well-known Slovenian architect. Other major repairs and reconstruction works have been carried out since the Velvet Revolution. One site which particularly stands out is St. Vitas Cathedral, which can be seen from the top of the castle hill from most points in the city.

The castle grounds have different gardens, including the Royal Garden, the Riding School Terrace Garden, the Garden on the Bastion, the Paradise Garden and the Deer Moat.
