Popular high-street shopping in a broad and beautiful avenue.
Regent Street was designed by John Nash for the Prince Regent, George IV and is an early example of town planning. A great admirer of Napoleon's urban planning in Paris, the fashionable Prince hired Nash to create a new walkway from Carlton House in Pall Mall to Regent's Park.
Regent Street became the centre of fashionable and commercial London in the 19th century, but today its target audience is mostly tourists, so it has consequently lost its old luxury appeal. With changing fashions in shopping, it has undergone much redevelopment since its initial conception. All Souls' Church is the only building which remains of Nash's original designs.
