The Courtauld café is the perfect spot for a light lunch or a pot of tea and a slice of cake after a wander through the gallery.
Jams and pickles are all homemade, and a relaxed waiter service provides British and European classics at reasonable prices. Its outdoor space is a lovely little courtyard just below the main court of Somerset House.
The menu varies seasonally. Starting at 15:00, the café serves a selection of savouries that include soups and salads, in addition to the more traditional afternoon tea; if you’re not alone, try their ‘tea for two’ menu for £25.95, which includes a glass of Prosecco, sandwiches, fruit scones, raspberry jam, Cornish clotted cream, macaroons and a bottomless pot of loose leaf tea.
Divento recommends…
Their smoked duck breast salad with peach, watercress, radishes and toasted pumpkin seeds (£9.75) or the vegetarian platter - Piedmontese pepper, beetroot salad with pistachio sauce, winter tabbouleh, bocconcini mozzarella and cherry tomatoes with pesto and salad leaves - at a more than reasonable £9.95.
