There are over 24,000 bits and pieces in this charming 15th-Century museum in the heart of the Latin quartier. It offers an unrivalled overview of the art and culture of Europe and the Middle East during the Middle Ages. Closed for renovation, it re-opened in May 2022.
Housed in two adjacent historical buildings - the remains of Gallo-Roman baths and Cluny Abbey - the National Museum of the Middle Ages, best known as Cluny Museum, is worth a visit both for it's extraordinary buildings and its collection: you will find Middle Eastern ceramics, religious stone sculptures, early gold jewellery as well as many exquisite tapestries, including the museum's most famous piece: The Lady and the Unicorn, a series of six Flemish tapestries that date back to the late 15th century.
The collection also gives us an insight into daily life in the Middle Ages with well-preserved everyday items and an impressive display of weapons and armour.
