Botanical Garden, Rome: All year

The Botanical Gardens in Rome are a hidden gem that you definitely want to visit!

The Botanical Gardens in Rome are a hidden gem that you definitely want to visit!  The quiet and lush garden is located in the Trastevere neighborhood of Rome.  It is a great way to take a break from the bustling action of the city.  It was designed in 1883 with over 30 acres to explore on the Gianicolo Hill.

There are beautiful waterfalls, palm trees, and gravel paths.  A highlight is the Japanese Garden where you can find various types of plants.  As well, the Giardino dei Semplici is a hit with the locals.  This monk inspired garden consists of tropical plant species and medicinal plants.

The garden is a great location for a picnic or just a stroll with friends.  It is almost as if you are in a fairytale here.  It is an enchanting place with exotic plants such as bamboo.  All of the plants and flowers are looked after and cared for by the Department of Environmental Biology of the Sapienza University in Rome.  Often there will be concerts in the park for a little entertainment.

Whether you’re looking to escape all the traffic and chaos of Rome or just looking to relax in a tranquil place, the Botanical Gardens are an excellent attraction.
