Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris

The building, designed to house the collection at the Fondation Louis Vuitton is the crowning jewel of an already impressive assembly of art, an architectural wonder that defies logic. The "wings" of the building resemble hundreds of white sails soaring above the surrounding Bois du Boulogne. The building was commissioned by the well-respected art collector, Bernard Arnault, and executed by the visionary American architect, Frank Gehry. The building itself, which took several years to plan and construct, represents the foundation's main objective: to promote the creation and sharing of art.

Sponsored by the art foundation, LVMH, the museum strives both to amass a unique collection of artwork in order to spread cultural awareness to viewers, and also to inspire and motivate the creation of art through commissions of new works (which includes, of course, the building itself). Its collection, organised by curator Suzanne Pagé in cooperation with Bernard Arnault, incorporates a stunning assembly of both new and classic artists of all mediums. Its permanent collection is supplemented by regular special and outstanding exhibitions which rely on commissions and artwork borrowed from other quality collections. The foundation is especially well known for its musical performances, which is no wonder considering the acoustic capabilities of a building of its scale. On the first Friday of each month, the museum is open late.
