One of the best collections of Danish modern art is housed in the Esbjerg art museum. On display among the 700 works in the permanent are both realism and abstract art from the 1920s to today. In addition, Important works by internationally known artists such as Vilhelm Lundstroem, Asger Jorn and Per Kirkeby, give the museum a diverse and complete over-view of the art history of Denmark during the 20th century. Also represented are Robert Jacobsen, Svend Wiig Hansen and the COBRA-artist Henry Heerup, whose sculptures around Esbjerg have contributed to its architectural expression.
