An 18th-century mansion and estate shaped by a story of love and neglect
With 60 acres of bursting colour, forest trees and rolling lawns, it is no surprise that Hodnet Hall Gardens has won the Historic Houses Association Christie’s Gardens of the Year Award 2017. It is also famous for its collection of daffodils which are at their best in April.
The museum trust runs 10 museums within the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage site, considered to be the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Some of the museums are Blists Hill Victorian Town, Enginuity, and the Iron Bridge and Tollhouse.
Designed by Lesley and John Jenkins since 1984, the garden is set around a 16th century hall (not open to the public) and has developed into an important modern garden in the English Garden tradition with echoes of arts and crafts.
