The Bury Art Museum was established in 1897 with the donation of the Wrigley Collection, which comprised over 200 oil paintings, watercolours, prints and ceramics collected by local paper manufacturer Thomas Wrigley. This generous gift was made on the condition that a suitable structure be provided to house it. The present structure, opened in 1901, is the result.
