Theater Reduta, former Theater Taverna, Brno

Whilst staying in Brno in the winter 1767 to escape the chickenpox outbreak in Vienna, Mozart and his sister Nannerl performed a concert at the Theater Taverna before the district governor.

Today you can still visit the renovated and refurbished Reduta Theatre, the oldest theatre in central Europe and one of the most progressive in the Czech Republic. Outside the theatre you would be hard pressed to miss the Mozart monument designed by the Czech artist Kurt Gebauer in 2008 to commemorate the concert, with the adult Mozart’s head attached to an 11-year-olds body with a single wing on his back.
