Royal Ulster Rifles Regimental Museum, Belfast

This museum tracks the history of the Royal Ulster Rifles regiment from its creation in 1773 to its final moments in the Korean War.

The Museum is in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter, quite near the Northern Ireland War Memorial Museum, and its collection goes right back to the beginnings of the regiment.

The Royal Ulster Rifles was an infantry rifle regiment of the British Army. It was created in 1773 and called Royal Irish Rifles, but the name changed to ‘Ulster’ in 1921 after the partition of Ireland. The Royal Ulster Rifles fought in the Second Boer War, First and Second World Wars, and the Korean War, and the museum has uniforms, badges, medals and other items from each of these military campaigns so you can see how life in the regiment changed over the years as new technologies and tactics developed.
