The Courtauld Gallery, London: All year

The Courtauld is internationally famous for its Impressionist and Post-Impressionist collections, but there are even more gems to be found.

What it lacks in size, the Courtauld makes up for in international quality. Famous for its Impressionist and Post-Impressionist collections, it features art from the Renaissance through to Modernism. As well as its stunning collection of paintings, the gallery also holds some 7000 drawings, prints, sculptures and decorative arts.

Set at the entrance of Somerset House, a beautiful 18th century building and courtyard on the banks of the Thames, the Impressionist collection is not only substantial, but includes some of the most iconic paintings of the movement. Van Gogh's Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear and Degas's La Loge are just a few among many more from Manet, Cezanne, Gauguin and their contemporaries.

The Courtauld café is the perfect spot for a light lunch or tea and cake after a wander through the gallery.
