An easy and cheap route to Castle Hill, the Funicular will bring you various historical sights and panoramic views of the city.
Castle Hill [Várhegy] is always a hit with Budapest’s visitors. Home to the Royal Palace, National Museum, and dramatic views of the capital, the Hill is nonetheless…a hill. How to get there with tired legs?
This is where the Funicular comes in. The uphill railway will take you all the way to the top, so is probably the easiest way to reach Budapest’s leading attractions. Queues can be long, but with services every 10 minutes, don’t be put off. It’s also open from early morning to late at night, normally 7am to 10pm, so will fit into any timetable.
Prices are very reasonable, a return costing around £5 in local money. Singles are available, too, if you just want to spare yourself the hard half of the trip.
Advice from Divento…
Besides being able to indulge in an amazing panorama, the arrival with the funicular will allow you to enter through the magnificent front door of the castle.
