City Park, Budapest

Take a break from exploring the bustling city centre and spend a peaceful afternoon in Budapest's gorgeous city park.

Less than a ten minute walk from the famous Széchenyi thermal baths, Budapest's city park (városliget) is a tranquil haven just a short metro ride away from the crowded touristic hotspots. The peacefulness of the park makes it the ideal picnic setting, and allows visitors a chance to rest their legs while still taking in the beauty of the city. In the centre of the park you'll find a stunning lake, where for less than eight euros per half an hour you can hire a small pedal boat, allowing you to observe the beauty of Vajdahunyad Castle from the close proximity of the water.

What's more, the surrounding area of the park is bursting with cultural activities, such as the Museum of Fine Arts (although under major renovations until 31st October 2018), Heroes' square and the botanical gardens, so if you're not one for sitting still for long, you won't have to look far for interesting amusements.

Budapest city park leaves an impression of the capital that is distinct from the crowded central area, allowing some R&R in the midst of your jam-packed schedule.
