Guinovart: Reality Transformed, Exhibition, Espais Volart, Barcelona: 24 January-19 May 2019

The exhibition "Guinovart: Reality Transformed" brings new insights into the plastic discourse of
Josep Guinovart and goes deeply into the fact that the artist, twelve years after his death, continues to connect with different generations of critics and curators. The exhibition puts the emphasis on the
ability of the artist to transform reality while continuously reinventing itself.

Though it might appear so, the exhibition isn't a retrospective, in the sense that it does not want to be a linear compendium that collects each and every one of the periods experimented by the artist; it is rather a selection of 80 works that include painting, graphic work, sculpture and installation -jumping through the lush forest of the artist's creation according to subjects, techniques, times and materials- which help us understand how Guinovart starts off from reality but only in order to transform it and give it new meaning. The works that comprise the exhibition date from different periods (roughly from around 1948 until the early 2000s) and include some of the most significant pieces of the different stages of the artist's career.
