Potsdam’s Dutch Quarter dates to the middle of the 18th-century when it was commissioned by King Frederick William I. Today, it is considered Europe’s best group of Dutch-style houses outside of the Netherlands.
King Frederick I desperately needed skilled workers to help build an extension of his garrison town. He had these 130 red brick houses built in the typical Dutch-style to make Dutch craftsmen in the city feel at home. The area now provides a unique insight into Potsdam’s history, with help from the Jan Bouman House museum opened in 1997.
Take a walk along the Dutch Quarter’s lively cobbled streets lined with cafes, bars and boutiques.
