In the former headquarters of the Colegio del Arte Mayor de la Seda (Silkmakers Guild), the museum offers an incredible explanation of how silk came to València and the importance of this trade.
Valencia’s three centuries of silk history still noticeable today, especially during the traditional Valencian festivals.
One of the main attractions is the 18th century Valencian ceramic floor in the Hall of Fame which represents the four continents known at that time. In the same room there is an impressive ceiling fresco by José Vergara.
The exhibition includes some antique working looms, the typical rows of shelves, “andana”, where the silk worms were bred, the tools of the trade, silk cloth, antique garments, historical documents and so on.
