Are you up for a slice of local life in Bologna?
When it comes to shopping in Bologna, Via dell’Indipendenza has it all wrapped up.
The straight avenue cuts through the historic centre of Bologna, starting right at the foot of Biblioteca Salaborsa and the Neptune Fountain and leading on to splendid San Pietro Cathedral and picturesque Montagnola park.
It comes as no surprise that Bologna’s “high street” is bordered by portico under which one can find shops that suit all tastes and pockets. During the weekend the array of fashion shops and boutiques, spiced by an occasional restaurant or a cafe, stretches into a vast street market, extending down the side streets to the left and right sides. It is perfect for grabbing a real bargain on a handmade leather goodie that will always remind you of your trip to Bologna!
Closed to traffic on the weekends, Via dell’ Indipendenza is a definite must-see on a Saturday night when it gives up its classy outfit for some good old fun. Thousands of people pour out in the street to enjoy a lazy stroll, have a drink and listen to street performers.
