HMS Belfast, London

All nine decks of this now city-bound warship are open to visitors, to explore life as it was on board.

Moored between London Bridge and Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast is part of the iconic cityscape of central London. Launched in 1938, she is the sole surviving big gun armoured warship built for the Royal Navy during the early 20th century.

When you arrive, you will be given an audio guide in English, French, German or Spanish. A children's version of the guide is available in English only. Nine decks of this warship are open to visitors. There are no cloakrooms in the ship's narrow corridors, so remember to travel light! You can reach seven of the nine decks by ladders, so it's a good idea to wear outdoor clothing and flat shoes.

You can explore the crew's living areas, including the Laundry, Ship's Chapel, Bakery, Gallery, Sick Bay, Dental Surgery and Arctic Mess decks, as well as the Engine Room, Operations Room and Compass Platform. There are also displays of photographs, models, paintings and accounts of battles during the Second World War, the bombardment of German defences on D-Day and the patrolling of the waters during the Korean War, which bring the HMS Belfast's history vividly to life. The Gun Turret Experience recreates the lights, sounds and smells of the warship in the midst of the Battle of North Cape on Boxing Day 1943. You can hear sailors recounting their memories of life aboard the HMS Belfast in the Life at Sea exhibition.
