Piazzale Michelangelo, Florence

Piazzale Michelangelo offers some of the best views of Florence!

Piazzale Michelangelo offers some of the best views of Florence!  This big pedestrian-only square is the perfect place to relax and take in the great city.  The square was designed in 1860 by architect Giuseppe Poggi as part of a modernization project.

The square is dedicated to the famous Michelangelo who came from Florence.  In the center of the square is a replica of the masterpiece, the David.  It is adorned with smaller statues that surround it.

Each year thousands of visitors make a trip to Piazzale Michelangelo for the fabulous panoramic photos.  There are also stalls within the square that sell souvenirs and snacks.  Although it can be crowded at times, the view of the Tuscan hills behind the city is absolutely breathtaking.
