The Fort de Salses is a Catalan fortress in the commune of Salses-le-Château

A Spanish fortress on French soil. 15km from Perpignan and the Mediterranean beaches, the Fortress of Salses, built in the 16th century to guard the ancient frontier between France and Spain, features impressive architecture, with its 12-metre thick walls, counter mine galleries, artillery towers and keep. Designed to house a garrison of 1,500 men and 300 horsemen, the visit explores how they lived and the defence systems used. The fortress is situated in stunning natural surroundings, between the lakes of Salses and the Corbières mountains, offering visitors exceptional views and a truly unique atmosphere.
