Basilica of Our Lady of the Daurade, Toulouse

A Roman Catholic Church built on the site of an ancient pagan temple.

This building used to be an ancient Temple of Apollo that was converted into a Christian church in the 5th-century. Unfortunately, a lot of the old sections of the church had to be rebuilt after sections were demolished in the 18th-century.

Go inside and marvel at the gold-leaf mosaics lining the walls. Don’t miss the Altar of Black Madonna, patron of Toulouse and mothers-to-be.
