Fondation Maeght, Provence

A unique architectural complex with one of the largest collections of modern art in Europe, featuring paintings, sculptures, drawings and graphic works by renowned 20th-century figures.

The museum was created by Marguerite and Aimé Maeght in 1964. It was France’s first private art museum and took its inspiration from the likes of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in America, which the couple had previously visited.

The buildings were designed by the Spanish architect Josep Lluís Sert and form a Modernist Mediteranean inspired ‘village’. The art is displayed across numerous galleries, sculpture gardens and rooftop terraces, with a bell tower and chapel also built on the site. A variety of exhibitions, concerts, theatrical performances and dance events are held throughout the year.
