Musée Granet, Aix-en-Provence

The museum offers a tour covering more than 4,000 square metres, focusing on paintings and sculptures. Nearly 750 works are on display, offering a vast panorama of artistic creation from the primitives and the Renaissance to the masterpieces of modern and contemporary art from the exceptional Philippe Meyer donation, including paintings and sculptures by Alberto Giacometti.

Inaugurated in 1838 in a 17th-century building - the Palais de Malte, bought by the city in 1825 - the museum benefits from several major private donations: those of François-Marius Granet, whose name was given to the museum in 1949 on the centenary of his death, but also those of Bourguignon de Fabregoules, Gueidan, Fernand Dol.

In the early 1990s, the city of Aix-en-Provence launched a complete renovation of the museum, supported by the State, the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur region and the Bouches du Rhône department. In March 2006, after five years of work, the museum opened its 4,500 m2 to the public.
