Museum Dr. Guislain, Ghent

Exhibits on the history of psychiatry & a collection of art in Belgium's first mental asylum.

The museum of Dr. Guislain, located in Ghent, traces the history of psychiatry by means of tools, images, works of art and scientific research results. The museum was opened in 1986 and is housed in an old hospital where psychiatrist Jozef Guislain, graduated in medicine at Ghent University in 1819, worked and to whom the museum is dedicated. In addition to a large permanent collection, three to four temporary exhibitions on different themes are organized every year.

The permanent collection includes an exhibition on the history of psychiatry, a selection of photos and works of art (including some images of Nek Chand).
