Fontainebleau Castle, Fontainebleau, France

After having continuously welcomed sovereigns for 8 centuries, the Château de Fontainebleau has undergone many improvements and embellishments around its original keep. However, one of the key elements of the castle remains the horseshoe staircase dating back to the reign of Louis XIII.

It was in the 16th century that the castle underwent tremendous development, under the influence of Francis I. He had the first gallery in France built there, with two levels, the first of which was reserved for the sovereign. Many expansions, combining styles and periods, make the Château de Fontainebleau an architectural and historical wonder.

The various apartments of the castle are richly decorated. Seeing the furnishings gives the feeling of entering the home of an opulent family. The castle also includes galleries - three of which still remain today - as well as an imperial theatre and three chapels. In addition to the architectural heritage of the castle, four museums have been installed within its walls, presenting a wide choice of historical and cultural heritage. Among the rare pearls hidden in the castle, you can admire Napoleon's throne, the Cabinet de l'Odyssée, or Josephine in Costume de Sacre, painting by François Gérard.

Don't miss the exterior of the castle, which has four main courtyards, each more majestic than the next, as well as three gardens where you can stroll.
